Section break ---- C*News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- E*EZ NEWS OCTOBER 2, 2019 ---- E*Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened down 21-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,945 on turnover of 2.7-billion N-T. The market moved much higher Tuesday. Major Apple suppliers got a boost from strong U-S consumer electronics shares overnight because of better than expected sales of the latest iPhones. Apple's gains came after J-P Morgan raised its price target on Apple shares from 243 to 265 U-S dollars, reflecting better the than expected iPhone 11 series sales. ---- E*Nan-Fang-Ao Bridge Rescue Operations Ongoing Search and rescue efforts at the site of the collapsed Nan-Fang-Ao Bridge in Yilan County are on-going. Members of a military special undersea rescue team as well as fire fighters and emergency service personnel are still trying to find missing people. Officials say the bodies of three migrant workers recovered from the wreckage (殘骸) of the fishing boats crushed in the bridge collapse have now been identified. They are two Indonesian nationals and one Philippine national. But a fourth body found at 8:40 this morning has yet to be identified. Two other migrant fishermen remain (仍) missing. The Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Transport are continuing to investigate the causes of the collapse. ---- E*Uber Moves to Adhere to Transportation Regulations Uber is changing its operating model here in Taiwan and says it will work with local taxi fleets. The ride-sharing company will avoid violating (違反) a recent amendment to the Regulations for Automobile Transportation Operators dubbed the "Uber clause." Uber says it will work with the taxi industry and become a technology platform under the government's Multi Purpose Taxi scheme. That scheme allows app-based metering, up-front pricing and flexible vehicle appearances. And Uber says "riders won't see any change to the app experience or the service they have been used to" under the new model. ---- E*HK Uni Students Protest Police Shooting Hundreds of college students are striking to condemn (譴責) the police shooting of their classmate. The 18-year-old Hong Kong student was shot in the chest at close range yesterday during protests on China's National Day. It was the first time a protester had been struck (擊) by gunfire since the protests began in June. Police have said the officer feared for his life. They say his shooting of the 18-year-old student in the chest at close range (近距離) Tuesday was ``reasonable and lawful.'' News reports say he is in critical but stable condition. Students at the Tsuen Wan Public Ho Chuen Yiu memorial college, which the teen attended, called police ``murderer'', and want justice. ---- E*US Officer Guilty in Murder of Neighbor A Dallas jury finds a former police officer guilty of murder in the shooting death of her neighbor. Mike Gracia reports. < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- E*Brazil Amazon Fires Declining The number of fires has fallen sharply in Brazil's Amazon region. The country's National Institute for Space Research says fires in the Amazon went down 35.5% in September compared to (相比) August. That means the total number of fires last month was 19-thousand-925. But the Cerrado region seems to now be home of most of the fires, which went up 76% in September compared to August. State workers at some of Brazil's environmental agencies say they are feeling more and more pressure from illegal loggers and miners.
