The market closed up on Thursday. Investors were encouraged that Beijing decided to leave some US products out of a recent (最近) round of tariffs. ---- E*Seven Injured in Freeway Accident Seven people have been hospitalized following an accident on the Zhongshan Highway in Lin-Kou. The accident involved (參與、當事) a large truck and six cars and led to major jams in the areas, as fire service teams remove the debris from the road. Emergency service personnel say two people were seriously hurt, and five others suffered minor injuries. The injured have been sent to the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police say it looks like the truck turned over on the highway, smashing into six other vehicles. ---- E*CDC Reports Three New Cases of Indigenous Chikungunya The Centers for Disease Contorl have confirmed a cluster of three indigenous chikungunya fever cases in New Taipei. The woman in her 80s and a man in his 60s live in a borough in the city's Zhong-He District, where there is already an active chikungunya cluster The third patient, a woman in her 50s, is from Xin-Zhuang District. She recently went hiking in the Zhong-He District twice. The three patients sought (尋求) medical attention between August 20 and September 10 - and they were confirmed to have chikungunya fever this past weekend. The C-D-C says none of the three patients had any record of traveling abroad recently. The hiking trail in the Zhong-He District is believed to be the source (來源) of the infections. ---- E*Trump Says US Knows Culprit for Attacks on SA Facilities US President Donald Trump says the U.S. thinks it knows who was behind the attack on Saudi Arabian energy facilities and is ready to take action, depending on verification (驗證) and other issues. Trump says the U.S. is waiting to hear from the Saudis as to who they believe was behind the attack and, as he put it, ``under what terms we would proceed!'' Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels say they are responsible for the attack, but U.S. officials say Iran is responsible. Iran denies it. The drone attacks hit Saudi Arabia's biggest oil processing facility and a major oil field. The attack stopped production of 5.7 million barrels of crude a day. That's about half of the country's global daily output (產量) and more than 5% of the world's daily production. ---- E*US Congress Debates Gun Control The US Congress is debating measures on gun control. Democrats want a House-passed bill to expand (擴展、拓展) background checks.
