Section break ---- C*News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- E*EZ NEWS SEPTEMBER 10, 2019 ---- E*Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened down 9-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,791 on turnover of 2.1-billion N-T. The market was a bit higher Monday and passed the 10,800-point mark. Large-cap electronics and financial stocks were the major drivers to gains throughout the session. But analysts say turnover was still moderate (中等), as trade tensions between the United States and China continue to weigh on the market, even though the two sides agreeing to resume talks in October. ---- E*Solomon Island's Official Refuses Comment on Diplomatic Ties The visiting Solomon Islands foreign minister will not comment on speculation (推測) Honiara will soon become allies with Beijing and cut ties with Taiwan. Jeremiah Manele arrived in Taiwan on Sunday for a five-day visit. Manele says his delegation is here to discuss "a number of bilateral issues," including cooperation in agriculture, labor mobility (勞動力流動) opportunities and possible technology transfers. Manele admitted that the Solomon Islands government is reviewing its foreign policy. But he says the review process is not limited to relations with Taiwan. ---- E*Tourism Bureau Promoting 'Small Town Tourism' in Seoul The Tourism Bureau is marketing trips to small towns to tourists from Seoul. The event is part of the bureau's 2019 tourism promotion theme "Small Town Ramble," which highlights (強調) dozens of small towns across Taiwan. Visitors in Seoul were given demonstrations of how to use augmented reality technology to get directions and information for travel in Taiwan. According to the Tourism Bureau, the number of arrivals from South Korea in Taiwan was 628,362 in the January to July of this year. ---- E*CWB Issues Rain Alerts for South And ..... The Central Weather Bureau has issued rain alerts for the south today. Heavy rain warnings are in affect for Chiayi City and County, Kaohsiung, Pingtung and Taitung. While an extemely heavy rain alert has been issued (發佈) for Tainan. ---- E*US reviews Trump overnight stays for aircrew The United States Air Force is reviewing where airmen stay overnight after controversy (爭議) over crews staying at a gof resort owned by US President Donald Trump. Nick Harper reports. < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- E*Experts Urge Climate Change Adaptation A group of leaders from business, politics and science want governments and businesses to start preparing for climate change over the next decade. The Global Commission on Adaptation, which has members like Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and former U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon, urged (敦促) people to get ready for the consequences of climate change, as well as try to stop it. In their 81-page report, the experts suggested investing $1.8 trillion between 2020 and 2030. The money would go to early warning systems, infrastructure that can withstand (經受) rising sea levels and extreme weather, and boosting agriculture to cope with droughts. Other things they want to spend money on, are boosting scarce (稀缺) water resources and improving mangrove forests.
