Section break ---- C*News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- E*EZ NEWS JULY 3, 2019 ---- E*Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened down 72-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,793 on turnover of 2.6-billion N-T. The market fell into consolidation (合併) mode Tuesday after climbing on Monday. Investors were less worried about trade tensions between the US and China. They were also encouraged by gains in chip stocks in the US. This helped balance out selling in the local petrochemical sector and other old economy stocks. ---- E*Pig Transport Vehicles to be Fined for No GPS Officials say vehicles that transport pigs must have GPS tracking systems. The Council of Agriculture says the owners could be fined starting next month if they don't install (安裝) the systems. The government is trying to keep a closer watch on pig transportation in case African Swine Fever is found here in Taiwan. Deputy Agriculture Minister Huang Jin-cheng says G-P-S tracking has already been installed in 1,425 vehicles. However, almost 600 other vehicles used to take pigs to slaughterhouses (屠宰場) have not installed G-P-S trackers. The owners of those vehicles will face a fine of up to 15,000 N-T under the Animal Protection Act if they do not install the systems by next month. ---- E*Agricultural Damage from Pingtung Tornado Rises The Pingtung Department of Agriculture says two townships saw losses of 20-million NT in produce after a tornado on Monday. The tornado destroyed more than 120 hectares of fruit orchards (果園) in Lin-Bian and Nan-Zhou townships. Officials say bell fruit, bananas, and other fruits and vegetables were damaged (受損). Military personnel has been helping residents clean their homes and remove debris left by the tornado. ---- E*CWB Issues Rain Warnings for South And ..... The Central Weather Bureau has now set rain alerts for seven cities and counties. An extremely heavy rain alert is still in effect for Pingtung. Heavy rain alerts are now in effect for Yunlin, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Taitung, as well as Chiayi City and County. ---- E*US rallies to protest conditions at border centers Rallies are being held across the US. Protestors are angry about the conditions (狀況) at detention centers for migrants who have crossed the US-Mexico border. Nick Harper reports from New York. < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- E*SAMerica Views Total Solar Eclipse Tens of thousands of tourists and locals watched a total solar eclipse over Chile and Argentina. The two countries were the only inhabited (居住,有居民的)) places where the eclipse could be seen. The eclipse started in Chile at 3:22pm local time in the city of La Serena. Thousands of visitors also went to nearby areas in Argentina. The Earth's next total solar eclipse will be Dec. 14-th, 2020.
