Section break ---- C*News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- E*EZ NEWS JUNE 25, 2019 ---- E*Tai-Ex Opens Slightly Down The Tai-Ex opened down 2-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,777 on turnover of 1.6-billion N-T. The market did not follow other markets in Asia and closed lower. Investors are continuing to watch for changes in the US-China trade war, ahead of the G20 summit. ---- E*Formosat-7 Launch Set for this Morning The FormoSat-7/COSMIC-2 satellite constellation will be launched into orbit later today. The satellite will be launched on a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. It was developed by Taiwan and the United States. Science Minister Chen Liang-ji says Taiwan will "surprise the world with its space technology" when the satellite enters orbit and starts sending back data. Chen is in Florida to watch the launch. The event will also be broadcast live by the National Space Organization in Hsinchu City. FormoSat-7 will replace FormoSat-3. It will be able to detect (檢測) typhoons, monsoons and other severe weather. ---- E*Earthquake Rattles East A magnitude (大小) 3.1 earthquake in northeast Taiwan caused no damage or injuries. The quake struck at 6:48 and was centered (中心) 41-kilometers southeast of Yilan County Hall. It was at a depth of 11-kilometers. It was felt stongest in Yilan, where in registered a magnitude 3 on the Central Weather Bureau's intensity scale. The earthquake was also felt in Hualien, where it was a magnitude 2 on the scale. ---- E*Suspected coup leader shot dead in Ethiopia, according to police From Ethiopia... Local police say the general who may have led a failed coup (政變) in the Amhara region has been shot dead. Coletta Wanjohi is in Addis Ababa and has more < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- E*Brazil Reports Dengue Death Rise Brazil officials say deaths caused by dengue fever in the last six months has gone up 163-percent from the same time last year. The health ministry says heavy rain and high temperatures have caused (造成) more dengue cases to occur. It says dengue has cycles, and there were less cases in the past two years. A report published Friday says 366 people died from the disease carried by mosquitoes from December 30th to June 8th. The report also says there were a total of 1.1 million probable (可能) dengue cases. That's a 561% increase from the first six months of 2018. About 600,000 of those cases are confirmed. ---- E*Endangered Rhinos Relocated to Rwanda Five eastern black rhinos were moved from Europe to Rwanda. The two males and three females of the critically endangered species were taken from wildlife parks in three European countries. They were released into protected enclosures in Rwanda's Akagera National Park. Officials say they will eventually be released into the park to increase the genetic diversity (基因多樣性) of the park's rhino population. The eastern black rhino is in critical (危急、臨界、嚴重) danger of extinction. The International Union for Conservation of Nature estimates there are only about 1,000 of the rhinos left in the wild.
