Section break ---- C*News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- E*EZ NEWS JUNE 18, 2019 ---- E*Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened up 16-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,547 on turnover of 1.6-billion N-T. The market did not change very much Monday. Some major stocks in the Apple supply chain climbed, and helped even out (拉平、平衡) losses from last week. But turnover was thin at 87-billion NT. Many investors were waiting for the result sof the two-day policymaking meeting by the US Federal Reserve. ---- E*DPP to Limit Referendums to Every Two Tears from August 2021 The DPP has passed a change to the Referendum Act. Now national referendums must be held on the fourht Saturday of August every two years, starting in 2021. This means referendums will not be held with the upcoming (即將到來) presidential election on January 11th, 2020, or with the next local government elections in late 2022. D-P-P lawmaker Chiang Chieh-an says the change will solve problems that happen when referendums are held with elections. The K-M-T is still against the change. They say it goes against the Constitution. ---- E*EVA Air Strike to go Ahead if Talks Yield no Progress EVA Air flight attendants could go on strike if their next round of talks with the airline this Thursday end with no agreement. The Taoyuan Flight Attendants Union says it seems unlikely that the talks will be any different from two other negotiations (談判) they've already had. They say the union is rehearsing (排練) for the strike. The union says the next meeting will be the first since the group got the legal right to strike. They believe their EVA Air members might call for a strike immediately if they are not happy with what the airline offers in their discussions. ---- E*US Sends Troops to Mid East The US is sending 1000 extra troops to the Middle East as tensions between the US and Iran keep rising. Our Washington correspondent Giles Gibson reports < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- E*China Earthquake Leaves Dead and Injured A strong earthquake hit Sichuan province in southern China last night. 11 people were killed and 122 were hurt. Local media says the magnitude 6 earthquake collapsed a hotel in Changning county and damaged some roads. The reports say the epicenter was 16 km below the surface. Government officials say firefighting crews (人員、隊) and rescuers are at the scene. ---- E*Raptors Parade Sees Violence and in Canada.... Shots were fired at a rally for the NBA champion Toronto Raptors. Tens of thousands of people were in and around City Hall Square at the time. Four people were shot, and some were lightly injured (輕傷) trying to get away. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Toronto Mayor John Tory, and NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and other Raptors players were on stage. Toronto police say three people were arrested and two guns were found. The four victims are in stable condition (情況穩定) and none of their injuries are life-threatening. Investigators did not say why the attack happened.
