Section break ---- C*News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- E*EZ NEWS MAY 28, 2019 ---- E*Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened up 14-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,348 on turnover of 1.2-billion N-T. The market did not change very much today. Investors were still worried about the on-going trad war between the United States and China. The market lost all the gains it made in earlier sessions, especially among (其中、當中) electronic stocks. But buying in old economy stocks helped the Tai-Ex stay positive. ---- E*Air Force Conducts Take Offs and Landings on Freeway President Tsai Ing-wen says this morning's take-off and landing drill (演習) by the Air Force was "successful". The drill saw an F-16V, a Mirage 2000, an I-D-F fighter jet, and an E-2K airborne early warning aircraft all landing and taking off on the Hua-Tan section of National Freeway No. 1 in Changhua. Tsai says the exercise was "complicated and challenging", but the island's joint forces "worked together to achieve the desired (期望的、要的) goal". She says the drill is "demonstrating the full strength" of the island's armed forces, and is an indicator of a "more reliable national defense mechanism". ---- E*Wan An Drill in Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung and Kinmen Today And in related news .... The annual (年刊、週年) Wan-an air-raid drills are continuing around the island. The 30-minute drill will happen today in Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Kinmen from 1:30 to 2pm. Tomorrow it will happen in Hualien, Taitung, and Matsu . On Thursday, the drill takes place in Penghu, Taichung, Changhua, Nantou, Yunlin, and Chiayi. People must get off the streets and get indoors during that time. Vehicles have to pull over to the side of the road. Those who do not follow the rules will have to pay a fine of up to 150,000 N-T. ---- E*Japan Stabbing Attack Leaves 3 Dead A man attacked people with a knife just outside Tokyo this morning. Two people were killed and at least 19 were hurt, including 13 children. Local media says the man attacked people who were lined up at a bus stop in Kawasaki City. Police say the people hurt were rushed (趕緊送到) to a nearby hospital, but one child and one adult reportedly died. The attacker was captured, and two knives were found at the spot. There were no other details about the man's identity, or why he attacked people. ---- E*Austrian Chancellor Ousted by No-confidence Austrian chancellor Sebastian Kurz has been forced to step down (下台). He lost a vote of no confidence in the country's parliament. Ira Spitzer has more from Berlin. < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- E*FiatChrysler Proposes Merger with Renault Turning briefly to business news.... Fiat Chrysler wants to merge (合併) with France's Renault. If the companies combine, they would be the world's third-largest automaker, worth $40 billion. They would make about 8.7 million vehicles a year. The largest and second-largest carmakers are Volkswagen and Toyota. General Motors is the fourth-largest.
