Section break ---- C*News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- E*EZ NEWS MAY 17, 2019 ---- E*Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened up 33-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,508 on turnover of 1.5-billion N-T. The market fell like most other Asian indexes. Investors were worried about trade tensions, but there are reports that US President Donald Trump may delay a decision about tarriffs on cars. ---- E*Lawmakers To Vote on Same-Sex Marriage Bills Lawmakers will make a final vote today on three different bills for same-sex unions. The DPP legislative caucus has started a "motion to amend (修改)" the Cabinet's original draft same-sex bill. They would like to take out the term "marriage". The government says the change was made to get more support for the bill from DPP lawmakers. They say this will not affect the legal rights of same-sex couples to register their marriage. The Constitutional Court set a May 24th deadline to guarantee (保證) marriage equality for same-sex couples. ---- E*Cabinet Supports Removal of Chunghwa Post Executives for Mismanagement Cabinet spokeswoman Kolas Yotaka says the government fully supports removing two CHunghwa Post executives. Chairman Louis Wei and president Chen Xian-zhe were removed for dereliction of duty (失職), over the leasing of the company's 15 storage units at a new logistics park. Yotaka says the Ministry of Transport found they mismanaged (管理不善) the company's logistics park project in Taoyuan City. This comes after many DPP lawmakers accused Chunghwa Post of leasing all 15 of its storage units in the Logistics Park to PChome. ---- E*Floods in Taoyuan Many streets in Taoyuan's Xin-wu and Da-yuan Districts are flooded due to torrential rain. Officials have closed down several roads for safety reasons. The Central Weather Bureau's data shows Taoyuan and Xinzhu are still seeing torrential (滂沱、滔滔) rain. Accumulated rainfall in Xin-feng and Xin-zhu have passed 300-milimiters so far today. The CWB has issued torrential rain, lightning strike and thundershower alerts for Taoyuan, Xin-zhu and the northeast. They say the weather will remain unstable (不穩定) for the rest of the day.. (JL) ---- E*US Missouri Considers Abortion Laws Senators in the US state of Missouri have passed a controversial (爭論的、) law that would ban abortion after 8 weeks of pregnancy. Next, state representatives and the state governor will vote on it and decide whether to ratify (批准) the bill. US correspondent Mary MacCarthy reports: < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- E*Andy Murray Receives Knighthood Two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray was knighted by Prince Charles. Murray was dubbed (封) by the Prince of Wales during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace. He was given the honor by Queen Elizabeth II in 2016, for services to tennis and charity. The ceremony was delayed by Murray's busy schedule and a hip problem.
