Section break ---- C*News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- E*EZ NEWS DECEMBER 21, 2018 ---- E*Presidential Office thanks US Congress for Asia Policy Bill The Presidential Office is thanking the US Congress for passing the Asia Reassurance (放心、再保證) Initiative Act. The act has a section restating US support of Taiwan, including regularly selling weapons and defense equipment, and encouraging visits by high-level officials between the two sides. The bill will now be sent to the White House for the President to sign. It automatically becomes law after 10 days, even if he does not sign it. ---- E*Taipei 101 New Year's Eve Show to Feature 9 Themes The Taipei 101 New Year's Eve fireworks show will have nine themes. The themes will be cuisine and night markets, people and professions, geography and environment, medical expertise, technology and contract manufacturing, fruit kingdom, freedom and democracy, religion, and tolerance. Officials say the display will also include an animated light show on the outside of the building from the 35th to 90th floor, using an LED lighting system. The show will be 6 minutes long, one minute longer than last year. ---- E*US Mattis' Blistering Resignation Letter US Defense Secretary James Mattis has resigned (辭職). Our Washington Correspondent Simon Marks reports. < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- E*Russia Putin on US Moves Russian President Vladimir Putin warns that the threat of nuclear war is growing. He says the US is not cooperating on many agreements on controlling the use and development of weapons. The US accuses Russia of breaking these agreements. But Putin also welcomed US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw (退出) the U.S. military from Syria. ---- E*UK Flight Restrictions to Lift for Gatwick British officials say they will temporarily lift some restrictions (限制) on flying at night. Travel in and out of the country has been slowed down after London's Gatwick airport was closed for safety reasons. Drones were spotted flying nearby. More than 100-thousand travelers have been affected (受影響).
