The Taipei City government says this year's forum (論 壇) will focus on the circular economy. Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-zhe will talk with Shanghai officials while following five principles -- getting to know each other, mutual understanding, respect, cooperation and tolerance. A government spokesperson says the discussions will focus on public housing, urban renewal, public health, culture and environmental protection. ---- E*US Trump Tiptoes Around Russia in Ukraine Issue US President Donald Trump is shying away from (迴避) naming Russia after tensions between Moscow and Ukraine rise. AP Washington correspondent Sagar Meghani reports. < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- E*UN Releases Aid for Venezuelans The United Nations has released $9.2 million for food, medicine and other help for Venezuelans as an emergency relief fund. The money includes $2.6-million for nutrition support for young children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. The UN says 12-percent of the population in Venezuela is undernourished. President Nicolas Maduro has said many times that Venezuela doesn't need outside help, and blames the US and some EU countries for plotting (圖謀) an invasion. ---- E*Scientists Worry Over Brazil's Rainforest Scientists are worried that Brazil's president-elect won't take care of the Amazon rainforest. Jair Bolsonaro, who takes office Jan. 1, has said he plans to use more land for cattle pastures (牧場) and soybean farms. He has called Brazil's rainforest protection laws an economic obstacle (障礙). New Brazilian government data shows the rate of deforestation has already increased over the past year. About 60 percent of the Amazon rainforest is in Brazil. The Amazon takes in as much as 2 billion tons of carbon dioxide a year and releases 20 percent of the planet's oxygen.
