Section break ---- News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- T*Taiex update The Tai-Ex opened up 3-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,827 on turnover of 2.2-billion N-T. ---- T*Tsai in Paraguay President Tsai Ing-wen is in Paraguay for a three-day state visit. Tsai was greeted at the airport by Paraguay's foreign minister, Taiwan's Ambassador to Paraguay, and hundreds of Taiwanese expats living there. She held talks with President-elect Mario Abdo Benitez, and will go to his inauguration (就職典禮) ceremony tomorrow morning. Tsai will then travel to Belize and Thursday. She will transit in Houston for her return flight to Taiwan. The president should arrive arrive back at Taoyuan International Airport on the evening of August 20. ---- T*MaiLiao generator resumes operations Tai-Power say the No. 3 generator at the Mai-Liao Power Plant in Yunlin County has restarted. The generator at the coal-fired plant was shut down on August 1 due to technical problems. Tai-Power say the No. 3 unit can generate 600,000-kilowatts of power at full capacity (量). ---- T*Taipei moves up on Livable Cities list And .... Taipei moved up two places on a list of the world's most livable cities. It is 58th on the 2018 Economist Intelligence Unit's Global Livability Ranking. Austria's capital Vienna is number one out of the 140 cities on the list. Syria's capital Damascus was bottom of the list. ---- Australia Senator immigration A new Australian Senator has caused controversy (爭議) with his first speech to parliament Arthur Stevens reports. < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- Greece forest fire Greek authorities say one more person has died from last month's fire near Athens. A 68-year-old man died of his injuries, and the death toll has now climbed to 96. Officials are looking into what caused the July 23-rd blaze at the seaside resort (渡假勝地) of Mati. ---- Brazil measles Brazil's Health Ministry says more than 1-thousand-200 people have been infected with measles. The ministry says six people have died. The cases are mostly in two states on Brazil's border with Venezuela. Brazil is trying to vaccinate all children between ages 1 and 5.
