Section break ---- News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- T*Taiex update The Tai-Ex opened up 3-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,969 on turnover of 3.1-billion N-T. ---- T*Taiwan Coop bank robber arrested Police have arrested the suspect who robbed Taiwan Cooperative Bank's Sha-lu Branch last Friday. The suspect was hiding in Pingdong when he was arrested. Police also found an Uzi submachine gun and around 300-thousand NT in cash. The man stole 1.2 million from the TCB branch on July 20th. He is now being taken back to Tai-zhong. ---- T*Marshall Islands president state visit Marshall Islands President Hilda Heine will arrive in Taiwan today for a week-long state visit. Heine will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen and Foreign Minister Joseph Wu. She will witness the signing of a visa-free program and an agreement on marine patrol cooperation. Heine and her delegation (代表團) will also visit the National Palace Museum, the Qi-Mei Museum in Tainan and the Meinong Hakka Culture Museum in Kaohsiung. The Marshall Islands president last visited Taiwan in May 2016 for Tsai's inauguration. ---- T*Taipei mayor ko crowdfunds campaign And .... Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je has set up a crowdfunding site for his re-election campaign. The goal was to raise 13.1-million N-T for this first phase. The site had already raised more than that goal by 9PM yesterday. Supporters are allowed to make donations of between $500 and $2000NT. Ko's re-election campaign team, 45-per cent of the 13-million N-T will go towards advertising, 24-per cent will be used to produce merchandise and 21-per cent of the funds (資金) will used for campaign events. The 10-per cent left will be used to set up campaign offices. ---- US EU trade deal US President Donald Trump says he's struck a deal with the European Union that could stop a trade war. They found more bodies in homes near the port of Rafina east of Athens. The death toll from the blaze is now 81. US surveillance aircraft are gathering footage to try to find out if Monday's fire had been started deliberately (故意). ---- Argentina abortion protest Dozens of demonstrators rallied in Argentina to support legalizing abortion. They marched in silence through the streets to the Congress building in Buenos Aires. Argentina's lower house recently approved a bill that would legalize elective abortion in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.
