Section break ---- News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- T*Taiex update The Tai-Ex opened up 97-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,933 on turnover of $3.81-billion N-T. ---- T*Power consumption hits July high Taipower says electricity use hit an all-time high for July yesterday. The state-run power company says high temperatures pushed electricity usage to 36.705-million kilowatts at 1:50pm. Taipower says the last record for July was 36.46-million kilowatts, set on Wednesday this week. Yesterday's electricity usage (運用、使用) was the third highest ever recorded. ---- T*Gov discussions on NHI info storage The government is discussing digitizing the information on the National Health Insurance card. Minister without Portfolio Audrey Tang says medical information could be stored on cellphones or other devices, so the public doesn't have to use a plastic card. Tang says this would be offered (提供) as an option for those who want to use it. ---- T*Digital Innovation Forum in Taipei And .... Participants at the Digital Innovation Forum in Taipei says the public should learn to see their future with artificial intelligence for a better world. The two-day APEC Business Advisory Council-sponsored forum is co-hosted by Taiwan and Papua New Guinea. Those who go to the forum talk about digital innovation and how these could affect the global economy, digital governance (治理) and cyber-security. The world's first robot to be given citizenship is also attending the event. Sophia is the world's first android citizen and was declared an national of Saudi Arabia in 2016. ---- US Russia US President Donald Trump is now saying no to an offer from Russian President Vladimir Putin. The AP's Ed Donahue reports. < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- Canada Trump auto tariffs Canada's government is warning the Trump administration that it will hit back if the U.S. puts tariffs on imports of Canadian automotive (汽車) products. Canada's deputy ambassador spoke at the US Commerce Department , saying that Canada will be ``forced to respond in a proportional manner''. The department is looking into whether it should apply tariffs and whether Canada's auto imports are a national security risk (風險) to the US. ---- Jordan new government Jordan's House of Representatives has given a vote of confidence to a new government. Prime Minister Omar Razzaz's cabinet received the confidence vote after parliament's lower house debated for 5 days.
