Section break ---- News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- T*Taiex update The Tai-Ex opened up 34-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,856 on turnover of 3.4-billion N-T. ---- T*4.6 quake rattles Taitung area A magnitude 4.6 earthquake hit the Taitung area this morning. There were no reports of damage or injuries. The quake at 9:03 was centered 13-km northeast of Taitung County Hall. It was 7-km deep. The quake was magnitude 5 in Taitung City. It was a magnitude 1 in Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung. The Taiwan Railways Administration says trains were not affected (受影響). ---- T*IATA calls for gov to sort out differences The International Air Transport Association wants governments to settle their differences (解決) so airlines are not affected. The statement was a response to Beijing calling for airlines to refer to Taiwan as part of China. The association says arilines are "non-political businesses serving many global markets and have no wish to make political statements in how they designate (指定) those markets." The group is asking governments to follow global standards and make sure they do not affect the market. ---- T*Taiwan publisher wins cookbook award And .... Taiwan's Emily Publishing Company has won first prize in the translation category at the 2018 Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. The company won for its Chinese edition (版) of the cookbook "Jerusalem." The Chinese version of "Jerusalem" won over other finalists (入圍決賽者) from 10 other countries. It won the title of "Best in the World" for "Best Cookbook Translation." ---- China threatens US trade war China is warning the US that it is ready for a trade war. Nick Harper reports from New York. < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- Emirates Human Rights Human rights activist Ahmed Mansoor has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for saying things against the government. Judges in the United Arab Emirates found Mansoor guilty of insulting the "status and prestige of the UAE" and its leaders. Mansoor can appeal the ruling. Mansoor received the prestigious (聲望很高的) Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders in 2015.
