I'm ______ and it's time for Easy EZ News on ICRT. ---- T*Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened down 6.6 points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,825, on turnover of 2.2-billion N-T. ---- T*SEF deputy secretary general tapped to also serve as spokesperson Straits Exchange Foundation Deputy Secretary General Guan An-lu has reportedly been named to serve as foundations spokesperson. The post has been open for almost four months. Reports say Guan will take up the job next Monday, and give her first news briefing nine days later. Guan is also head of the Straits Exchange Foundation's Department of Legal Affairs and was a judge with the Taiwan High Court's Gaoxiong Branch. ---- T*Civic groups call for preservation of farmland Environmental groups want the government to make sure farmland is used for farming. Citizens of the Earth say the government's farmland registry is important for food safety and balanced industrial development. They say all farmland should be preserved as farmland. The Council of Agriculture data says 13-thousand hectares of farmland is being used illegally. And out of the 38-thousand unregistered illegal factories across the island, 40-per cent are on farmland. ---- US immigration raids In the U-S.... About 100 convenience stores were raided by federal immigration agents. Our U.S. correspondent Priscilla Huff reports: < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- Mediterranean countries on EU Seven Mediterranean countries are asking citizens to talk about what they want for the future of the European Union. Leaders from Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Malta, Greece and Cyprus met in Rome to prepare for full EU meetings later this year. A joint statement from the countries says they welcome the idea of getting ideas from citizens.
