I'm ______ and it's time for EZ News on ICRT. ---- 10AM TAIWAN NEWS The Tai-Ex opened up 28-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,735 on turnover of 2-billion N-T. The market closed down Tuesday as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing once again led a decline in the bellwether electronics sector, after I-C stocks in the U-S fell overnight. -------------- Former President Ma Ying-jeou is being questioned in connection with an investigation into financial fraud stemming from the sale K-M-T assets in 2005. Ma arrived at the Taipei District Prosecutors Office at just after 9 o'clock this morning and did not speak with waiting reporters. It is the first time Ma has been questioned as part of the investigation that centers of the sale of the Broadcasting Corporation of China, China Television the and Central Motion Picture Corporation. The sales have led to allegations the company's failed to report the actual value of the assets and that the K-M-T circumvented regulatory oversights to gain financial benefits. The sales took place during Ma's first term as K-M-T chairman from 2005 to 2007. ---------------- Premier William Lai is continuing to defend the Cabinet's proposed amendment to the labor law - saying it will make work rules more flexible for both employers and employees. According to Lai, the decision to amend the laws has the backing of employees - and a recent poll found that 66-per cent of workers believe there are problems with the current "rigid" five-day workweek rules. The current labor law that went into effect in December of last year stipulates that all employees get one fixed day off per week plus one flexible day which can be negotiated for overtime. However, that revision drew protests from both business owners and workers for its lack of flexibility and Lai says the government is now seeking to rectify that. ------------------- And .... National Space Organization Deputy Director-General Yu Xian-cheng says the imaging capabilities of the Formosat-5 satellite are improving. According to Yu, the images are now good enough for disaster prevention, but greater resolution is needed before they can be used in urban planning and mapping. The statement comes as the space organization continues to rectify problems with images being transmitted by satellite. Taiwan's first domestically developed satellite was launched into orbit in August from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. However, the first images sent from the satellite in early September were blurry. ---- Indonesia Bali volcano Indonesian officials have closed Bali's international airport for a third day today, due to ash spewing from a volcano. Authorities have told 100,000 people to leave an area extending 10 kilometers from Mount Agung. The volcano's last major eruption in 1963 killed about 1,100 people, but it's unclear how bad the current eruption might get or how long it could last. ---- NKorea missile launch U-S President Donald Trump says the US will "take care of it" following North Korea's latest missile launch. The Pentagon says it believes an intercontinental ballistic missile travelled for 1,000km before falling into the Sea of Japan earlier this morning. Our US Correspondent Harry Horton reports. < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- EU Brexit talks A European Union official says EU and British negotiators were making progress toward a breakthrough in Brexit talks. British media reports say both sides had agreed on a British payment of roughly around $50 billion euros. The EU official says negotiations are still ongoing, and could not confirm such a deal had already been secured. The EU Commission is set to assess progress in the talks next week. ---- WEATHER AM ..... Looking at the weather across Taiwan ... We can expect ....
