I'm ______ and it's time for Easy EZ News on ICRT. ---- T*Taiex update The Tai-Ex opened down 17 points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,734 on turnover of 2.7 billion NT ---- T*Taiwan activist sentenced in China A Taiwan human rights activist has been sentenced in China. Lee Ming-che was ordered to spend 5 years in prison on charges of subversion. Lee says he doesn't plan to appeal the verdict (判決) from Yue-yang City Intermediate People's Court Lee's wife was also at the court for the verdict. Two officials from the Straits Exchange Foundation and Shi Chia, the daughter of former D-P-P chairman Shi Ming-de were with her. Lee was arrested in China in March, and pleaded guilty at the trial's only hearing on Sept. 11th. ---- T*Gov on Japan food ban The government will not lift an import ban on food from nuclear-affected areas in Japan. Vice Economics Minister Wang Mei-hua says the government would never sacrifice (犧牲) citizen's health to try to get into the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership. But Wang also says Taiwan and China are the only two countries that still have such bans. The import ban covers food from five prefectures affected by the meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. The government last year said it was considering lifting the ban, but the public was strongly opposed (反對) to the idea. ---- T*Wang to coach pitching camp And .... Former Major League Baseball player Wang Chien-ming will coach a five-day pitching camp in Taipei today. The Elite Pitching Camp at the Tianmu Baseball Stadium will be hosted by five people from the Florida Baseball Ranch. They were invited to Taiwan by the Chinese Professional Baseball League. Wang trained at the ranch before his time as a relief pitcher with the Kansas City Royals in 2016. ---- US Hawaii nuclear siren The U-S state of Hawaii will start using a nuclear missile siren (警笛、警報器) that hasn't been used since the Cold War. US correspondent Frances Read has the details < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- Indonesia Bali volcano The international airport in Bali, Indonesia remains (仍) closed for a second day today. Officials say they had to close the airport for another 24 hours to avoid ash from Mount Agung. The volcano has been spewing (噴) ash into the air since the weekend. Indonesia's volcano alert was raised to the highest level yesterday. Officials also expanded (擴充、擴展) the danger zone around the volcano to 10 kilometers from the crater in some areas. The government has told 100-thousand people to leave their homes. But tens of thousands have stayed because they felt safe or didn't want to leave their farm animals. ---- Britain royal engagement Former U-S President Barack Obama has tweeted congratulations to Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle after they announced their engagement (訂婚). Obama said he and former first Lady Michelle wished the couple a lifetime of joy and happiness together.
