The storm is currently east of Taipei and moving in a north-westerly direction. Talim has wind speeds (風速) of 137-kilometers-an-hour, with gusts (陣風) of up to 173-kilometers-an-hour. Although the CWB does not think the storm will make landfall (登陸) in Taiwan, Taipei, New Taipei and Keelung will see the strongest wind and rains from this afternoon, into tomorrow and possibly Friday. Many airlines have canceled flights due to the typhoon - and passengers traveling over the next 24-hours are being advised to check with their airlines before heading to the airport. ------------------- The wife and the mother of detained (在押) Taiwanese human rights advocate (提倡者) Lee Ming-che returned to Taiwan late yesterday after going to a court hearing (庭審) in Yue-Yang City on Monday. Lee also admitted to knowingly distributing (發布) information and articles online attacking the Chinese government. Lee's wife, Lee Jing-yu, issued a statement after Monday's hearing indicating (表示) she has been "exhausted" by her husband's detention and the trial and friends say she needs time to rest. Reports from Beijing say the court is expected to rule on Lee's case in three months. ---- Myanmar In world news... The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (伊斯蘭合作組織) is asking Myanmar to allow in U.N. monitors (監察人) so they can investigate (偵查) what it alleges (辯稱) is systematic (制度性) brutality (暴力) against the Rohingya (羅興亞人) ethnic minority (少數民族). At least 370,000 Rohingya have flooded into Bangladesh since Aug. 25, when Myanmar's military responded to an insurgent (叛軍) attack with what it called ``clearance operations'' to root out (剷除) the rebels. Many of the fleeing Rohingya have said Myanmar soldiers shot indiscriminately (不加區別), burned their homes and warned them to leave or die. The U.N. Human Rights Council (聯合國人權理事會) approved an investigative mission (偵查性使命) earlier this year, but Myanmar in June refused to allow it to enter. An envoy's (使節) visit in July was met with protests (抗議). ---- US Supreme Court The US Supreme Court (最高法院) is allowing the Trump administration (執政) to maintain its restrictive (限制性) policy (政策) on refugees (難民). The justices (法官) on Tuesday agreed to an administration request to block (阻止) a lower court ruling that would have eased (暖和) the refugee ban (禁令) and allowed up to 24,000 refugees to enter the country before the end of October. The justices will hear arguments (辯論) on October 10th on the legality (合法性) of the bans on travelers from six mostly Muslim countries and refugees anywhere in the world. ---- Euro Commission The European Commission(歐洲聯盟委員會) is moving forward with infringement (侵害) actions against member state Poland, for recent changes to their judicial system(司法機構). ---- HBO John Oliver Last Week Tonight is going to last a few years longer.
