EZ6Untitled recording 01:37PM ---- ICRT_Podcast-Intro_December 2013 ---- Section break ---- 10AM Easy EZ News Intro Good morning. It's 10 o'clock. I'm ______ and it's time for Easy EZ News on ICRT. ---- T*Taiex First local news... The Tai-Ex opened down 23-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,593 on turnover of 1.8-billion N-T. The market closed above the 10,600- point mark Tuesday on the back of gains by select large-cap stocks (某些大型股) across the board, but the upturn was capped (上漲有限) amid lingering concerns over geopolitical tensions and fears of possible volatility (可能的波動) on Wall Street. ---- T*Cabinet members Sources say most of the incumbent Cabinet members will retain their posts in the new Cabinet and only a minor reshuffle (小幅調整) is expected when Premier-designate William William Lai takes office Friday. However, Financial Supervisory Commission (金管會) Chairman ) Lee Rui-tsang and National Development Council (國發會) chief, Chen Tian-zhi will step down. Lee will be replaced by Chen Mei-ling, the current incumbent Cabinet secretary-general. While Wellington Gu, the chairman of the Ill-gotten Party Assets Settlement Committee (不當黨產委員會), will be appointed to head the Financial Supervisory Commission. Taiwan Stock Exchange Chairman Shi Jun-ji will be the new vice premier. ---- T*MAC on cross-straight relations Mainland Affairs Council Minister Katherine Chang is urging China to restart dialogue with Taiwan. Speaking Tuesday at a workshop on cross-strait relations in Taipei, Chang said the governments should meet, hold dialogue and negotiate with each other. However, she also insisted that there be no preconditions (沒有預設條件) to such talks. Chang said Beijing wants the government here in Taipei to accept the 'one China principle' before talks can begin - but the Tsai administration has consistently refused (一直拒絕) to accept that precondition. Chang went on to say that Beijing's claim that Taiwan is "part of China" is a "deviation from fact 悖離事實" - and the island is an independent sovereign state (主權獨立國家). ---- T*EPA on platics The Environmental Protection Agency says it will further restrict (限制) seven more categories of retailers from providing free plastic bags from January 1-st of next year. According to the E-P-A, the move will include drug and cosmetic stores, stores that sell medical equipment, electronics stores, bookstores, stationery stores (文具店), beverage shops, cafes and bakeries. Customers will still be able to purchase plastic bags if they want them. The E-P-A says the policy will cover up to 80,000 stores by next year. ---- Hurricane Irma In world news... Hurricane Irma is bore down (侵襲) Tuesday on islands in the northeast Carribean, armed with the most powerful winds ever recorded for a storm in the Atlantic Ocean. Irma had maximum sustained winds (中心最大風速) of 295 kilometers per hour as it approached the Caribbean from the east. The dangerous Category 5 storm poses an immediate threat to the small islands of the northern Leeward Islands, including Antigua and Barbuda, as well as the British and U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. And Irma is forecast to move toward Florida over the weekend. ---- Spain A Spanish court has billed 11 former Catalan officials 6.1 million U.S. dollars for holding an informal independence vote (獨立投票) three years ago, but the region's leaders say the penalty won't stop them from holding a binding referendum (有法律拘束力的公投) on the issue. Spain's Court of Auditors ruled Tuesday that the officials should repay as bail (要付出這些款項當作保釋金) the public funds it cost to hold the 2014 vote that the country's Supreme Court had deemed unconstitutional. Leaders in Catalonia called the bail a "desperate attempt'' by Spanish authorities to stop the independence referendum scheduled for October 1, and would push forward with the referendum. ---- Motown Auction Some Motown memories will soon be up for bids. AP Entertainment Editor Oscar Wells Gabriel reports for fans of that era, the price might just be right. < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- WEATHER AM ..... Looking at the weather across Taiwan ...
