The Tai-Ex opened up 19-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10-thousand 598 on turnover of 3.3-billion N-T. The market closed at a 27-year high Monday - as the Dow Jones latest record high last week gave investors confidence to push prices higher. ---- T*TaiPower on power supply Power consumption soared Monday, triggering a red-light alert for power supplies as operating reserves fell to below 900,000-kilowatts. Tai-Power issued the alert after temperatures in Taipei hit 38.5-degrees at 1:57PM. According to the state-generator, electricity usage peaked (達到高峰) at 36.16-million kilowatts at 2:09PM, when the operating reserve margin (備轉容量) dropped to 845-thousand 200-kilowatts. Tai-Power says supplies will continue to flash a red alert today and is warning that heavy power users could face rationing (大戶可能限電) if reserves continue to drop. However, the government says it currently has no plans to implement (實施) electricity rationing, despite tight power supplies. ---- T*Taizhong's Qing Quan Gang Air Base The Taizhong District Prosecutors' Office will not be pressing charges against 10 military members at Qing Quan Gang Air Base for drug use. Prosecutors say hair tests (毛髮測試) on the enlisted personnel and officers proved negative for heroin (未使用海洛因). However, prosecutors say the investigation remains ongoing (持續進行), because they have yet to determine where the 53 packages of amphetamines found at different parts of the base in February came from. The packages of amphetamines were scattered over a 2-kilometer stretch of the base, and were found in a hangar (機棚), a basketball court and a parking lot. The Ministry of National Defense had ordered all 2,555 personnel stationed on the base to undergo drug tests (都要做藥物檢測). ---- T*TSMC Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company says Apple C-E-O, Tim Cook will not attend the chip maker's 30th anniversary celebrations on October 23-rd. T-S-M-C had invited Cook to be a guest speaker at a technology summit (技術高峰會) which is part of the company's upcoming anniversary celebration. However, Cook was unable to attend the event due to a tight schedule (行程太滿). T-S-M-C was founded in 1987 and has been credited with creating a pure wafer foundry operation (純半導體晶圓製造廠) business model (商業模式) for the world's semiconductor industry. ---- Venezuela .... In international news .. Venezuela's opposition is calling for a nationwide protest (全國示威抗議) Tuesday against the government of socialist President Nicolas Maduro. Lawmakers are urging Venezuelans to abandon their homes and workplaces at midday to take to the streets to block traffic and bring the nation to a standstill (讓全國停擺). The opposition has been struggling to regain its footing (站穩腳步) since last week's meeting of a loyalist special assembly to rewrite Venezuela's constitution (從上星期特別制憲會議開會要修改委國憲法之後). Turnout at an anti-government march Friday was one of the smallest in four months of deadly unrest. ---- North Korea ... European Union food safety experts are analyzing contaminated (受汙染的) egg products imported from the Netherlands to two companies in France. France is one of four countries the European Union has notified that some eggs contaminated with an insecticide (殺蟲劑,農藥) may have crossed their borders. Eggs tainted with the pesticide have been discovered in Belgium, the Netherlands, and France. The E-U has also alerted (警告) Britain, Sweden and Switzerland as a precaution. ---- HBO .. An individual using the name "Mr. Smith" has posted a fresh cache of stolen H-B-O files (新的一批HBO資料) online, including some apparently related to the TV show "Game of Thrones." The dump includes scripts from five "Game of Thrones" episodes, including one upcoming episode, and a month's worth of email from the account of an H-B-O programming executive. H-B-O says it's continuing to investigate and is working with police and cybersecurity experts (網路安全專家). This is the second data dump from the purported hacker. ---- WEATHER AM .....
