I'm ______ and it's time for Easy EZ News on ICRT. ---- T*Taiex The Tai-Ex opened up 1-point this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,470 on turnover of 2.7-billion N-T. The market closed lower Thursday, dropping to below the nearest technical resistance level of 10,500-points - with almost all the major stock categories losing ground. ---- T*Prosecutors on Zhao Shao-kang The Taipei District Prosecutors' Office has summoned Broadcasting Corporation of China chairman Zhao Shao-kang for questioning after it reopened an investigation into the sale of K-M-T assets (國民黨資產) in 2005. Former K-M-T administration and management committee director Zhang zhe-chen and former Central Investment Corporation general-manager, Wang Hai-qing were also questioned by prosecutors yesterday. Zhao has denied any wrongdoing. The investigation centers on the sale by the K-M-T of the B-C-C and allegations the party failed to release proper reports in regards the actual value of the assets (資產的實際價值) and failed to adhere to regulatory oversight (未遵守機關監督) when it sold the assets. ---- T*Chinese athletes The Cabinet says it respects the decision by Chinese athletes competing at the upcoming Universiade not to attend the opening ceremony on August 19-th. Cabinet spokesman Xu Guo-yong says organizers cannot force anyone to participate in the ceremony. According to Sports Administration Director-General Lin De-fu, China has registered to send a 195-member delegation(代表隊), including 113 athletes and 82 staff members, to the Universiade. ---- T*Taoyuan Metro Taoyuan Metro Corporation Chairman Liu Kun-yi says ridership (旅客人次) of the airport M-R-T line between Taipei and Taoyuan is expected to surpass (超過) 10-million by the end of August. According to Liu, the line had carried 8.6 million passengers as of the end of July - some five months after it started commercial operation. Statistics show that the line carries 54,000 passengers per day. The busiest stops are the Taipei Main Station, Chang Geng Memorial Hospital, Airport Terminal 1 and 2, and the Taoyuan High Speed Rail Station. ---- US Russia Investigation Turning to world news... A person familiar with an investigation into potential coordination (可能有合作) between Russia and the Trump campaign says Special Counsel (特別檢察官) Robert Mueller is using a grand jury (大陪審團) in Washington as part of the probe (調查). The Wall Street Journal first reported the grand jury. Mueller was appointed special counsel in May following the firing of FBI Director James Comey. Meanwhile, lawyers for Trump say they have no reason to believe the president himself is under investigation. Grand juries are common vehicles to subpoena witnesses and records (大陪審團經常傳訊證人或調閱資料), though they do not suggest any criminal charges are near. ---- Dubai Fire Fire engulfed (吞噬) a high-rise residential tower in Dubai in the middle of the night, sending plumes of smoke into the air and debris falling below. Dubai's police say firefighters were on the scene (已經到場), and that no injuries have been reported so far in the blaze at the Torch Tower. More than 40 floors of the 86 story tower were burning on one side of the building. It is the second major fire to engulf the Torch Tower, which caught fire in early 2015. Fires have affected several skyscrapers in the United Arab Emirates. ---- Australia Terror Attempt Australian police say two men accused of a terror plot was trying to bring down a plane out of Sydney by placing an improvised explosive device, or I-E-D, on it on July 15th. Arthur Stevens has the latest developments. < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- Boxing Former heavyweight boxing world champion Wladimir Klitschko has announced his retirement. The 41-year-old dominated the heavyweight scene (獨霸重量級拳擊界) for a decade but lost to Britain's Anthony Joshua in April after being knocked out in the 11th round.
