The Cabinet made the call Monday, saying central government offices will turn their air-conditioning off for two hours a day while repairs are being carried out to an electrical transmission tower in Hualian County. However, speaking to reporters Tuesday, the Taipei mayor said city government offices will not lose their air-conditioning at anytime of the day. Ko described the Cabinet call for air-conditioning to be turned off for two hours a day as "an extraordinary order" (太奇怪的命令) and one that - in Ko's words -- "should only be given in a state of emergency." ---- T*Agricultural losses Agricultural losses from Typhoon Nesat and Tropical Storm Haitang now stand at 280-million N-T. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has just pushed through the divisive election of a constituent assembly (制憲代表集會) that he will use to rewrite the country's constitution and punish his political opponents. To that end, opposition leaders Leopoldo Lopez and Antonio Ledezma were taken from their homes in the middle of the night by teams of heavily armed security agents (重裝安全人員) to a military prison. The two had already been under house arrest (之前已經遭到軟禁), and Venezuela's Supreme Court said putting them in jail had violated the terms of the house arrest (違反軟禁規定). The White House is condemning what it calls ``the Maduro dictatorship (獨裁)'' over the arrests of the top opposition leaders. ---- US UK The White House says it's taking "very seriously" reports that a British e-mail prankster (惡作劇的人) managed to communicate directly with top Trump administration officials.
