The Tai-Ex opened down 27-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,480 on turnover of 1.9-billion N-T. The market closed higher Thursday to break the 10,500 point mark on news that Hon Hai Precision plans to invest 10-billion U-S dollars to build a display panel plant in the U-S state of Wisconsin. ---------------- ---- T*CWB on Nesat The Central Weather Bureau issued a sea warning for Tropical Storm Nesat at 8:30 this morning - and forecasters say a land warning may be issued as soon as this afternoon. The storm is currently located about 530-kilometers east-south-east of Ou-Lun-Bi at the island's southern most tip and moving in a north-westerly direction at speeds averaging 16-kilometers-an-hour. Nesat has maximum sustained wind speeds of 108-kilometers-per-hour, with gusts of up to 137-kilometers-an-hour. And the weather bureau says if Nesat continues in its current projected path, it will make landfall in the Taitung area tomorrow and continuing to affect much of the island throughout Sunday. - ---- T*Fisheries Agency on Taiwanese fishing boat The Fisheries Agency is denying charges by Jakarta that Taiwan-registered fishing boats have been operating illegally in Indonesia's exclusive economic waters (專屬經濟海域). According the agency, its monitoring system shows that none of the seven Taiwan fishing boats accused of poaching (盜獵盜捕) in Indonesian waters had engaged in any illegal operations in the areas over the past three months. The statement follows claims by Indonesia's Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister that seven Taiwan-registered vessels (漁船) have recently been observed fishing in waters near Biak Island. ---- T*MOE on foreigners The Ministry of Education says foreign nationals hired to teach in Taiwan after June 14-th will be required to present proof that they have no criminal record in their country of origin. According to the education ministry officials, the law is not retroactive (溯及既往) and will not apply to those employed before the amendment came into force. The amendment to the Supplementary Education Act (補習教育法) requires all cram school teachers and staff to submit a Police Criminal Record Certificate (警察犯罪證明，良民證) and use their real names when recruiting students and offering lessons. The amendment was introduced to protect students from potential sexual predators (潛在的性侵犯罪者), after the death of a young writer who was allegedly raped by a cram school teacher. ---- US Russia A new package of stiff financial sanctions against Russia and other nations is heading to President Donald Trump's desk. AP Washington Correspondent Sagar Meghani reports from the White House. < [CLIP] Slug:russia > ---- Venezuela An AP tally of official reports shows that the death toll in nearly 4 months of civil unrest in Venezuela has reached 100. The report comes as Venezuela bans protests before Sunday's controversial vote for a new constitution. President Nicolas Maduro is attempting to rewrite the country's constitution, a move his opposition say is a move toward dictatorship. The United States is ordering relatives of American diplomats to leave the Venezuelan capital ahead of the polarizing vote (讓國家陷於分裂的投票). ---- Bezos Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos became the world's richest man Thursday in Forbes magazine's tracking of wealth - but only briefly - as stock in his e-commerce company hit an all-time high. Microsoft founder Bill Gates reclaimed the lead by afternoon, as Amazon's stock fell nearly 1 percent for the day to $1,046 dollars per share. However, Forbes pointed out that Gates would have been the undisputed leader had he not given billions of dollars away to various philanthropic causes (慈善活動). ---- WEATHER AM .....
