The market closed higher Tuesday, climbing back up slightly (略) after US markets also rose overnight. But analysts say the gains were limited by investor concern about the US-China trade war. And the market did not rise further because it was close to the 10,400 point mark. ---- E*KMT Lawmakers Voice Concern About Gou-Ko-Wang Alliance KMT lawmakers say Terry Gou, Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-j and former Legislative Speaker Wang Jin-pyng working together for the 2020 presidential election woudl be bad for KMT unity (團結). Lawmaker Apollo Chen says if Gou tries to run for President, that will split the KMT vote, and lead to KMT presidential candidate Han Guo-yu losing. KMT lawmaker Chen Yu-zhen says people who support the party are very worried that if Gou runs, it will help President Tsai Ing-wen get re-elected. K-M-T lawmakers want Chairman Wu Den-yih to set up a meeting between Gou and Han to stop the party from splitting. ---- E*Year's First Case of Hantavirus Hemorrhagic Fever Confirmed The Centers for Disease Control has confirmed this year's first case of hantavirus hemorrhagic fever. Health officials say the patient is a person from anothe rcountry, who works on a fishing boat based out a port in Northern Taiwan. The CDC says the man may have been infected by (被...感染) mice on the fishing boat. They say a rodent caught on the boat by officials also tested positive for the virus. Other fishing boats close to that boat have been disinfected. There have been 12 reported cases of hantavirus hemorrhagic fever in Taiwan since 2009, all of which were indigenous. ---- E*US Puerto Rico Braces for Tropical Storm Puerto Rico is getting ready for another major storm. Tropical Storm Dorian is expected to grow into a hurricane as it gets close to the Caribbean islands today. Here's U.S. correspondent Liling Tan with the details. < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- E*US Allies Condemn NKorea Launches Three European countries spoke against the ``repeated provocative (挑釁) launches'' of ballistic missiles by North Korea. The United Kingdom, France and Germany put out a joint statement after getting information from a U-N officia. The three European council members urged North Korea ``to engage in meaningful negotiations with the U.S.,''. This is what President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un agreed to on June 30-th at their meeting in the Demilitarized Zone between the two Koreas. The three countries say ``international sanctions must remain in place and be fully and strictly enforced until North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs are dismantled (拆除).'' ---- E*Vatican Consecrates Chinese Bishop A Chinese Catholic bishop has been consecrated, with approval from Pope Francis. This is the first ordination since the Vatican and China signed a deal last year about naming bishops. A Vatican spokesperson says Monsignor Antonio Yao Shun got a papal mandate.
