T*Taiex update

 

The Tai-Ex opened up 23-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 9,720

on turnover of 2-billion N-T.

T*EPA seeks to increase marine pollution fine

 

The Environmental Protection Administration wants to raise the fine for

polluting the ocean.

 

Officials say they want the maximum (最大值、最高) fine to be 300-million NT.

 

The fine would be based on the size of the ships, and the ship owner's

finances (財務狀況).

 

The change would also give rewards to people who report ships that break the

laws.

 

This comes as the clean-up work on an oil spill on Green Island is still

continuing.

 

The work will take around seven days to finish.

T*4th nuclear plant fuel rod removal to begin

 

The government says the nuclear fuel rods at the Fourth Nuclear (核) Power

Plant will take two to three years to take away.

 

Economics Minister Lee Shi-guang says the rods can be sold, but Taiwan would

need permission from the U-S.

 

Lee says the government will start taking the 1,744 rods out of the plant

later this year.

T*Water rationing to start in Gaoxiong

 

And .... 

 

Water rationing will start in Gaoxiong next Monday.

 

Water pressure will be lower from 11PM to 6AM each day.

 

The Water Resources Agency says even though there has been some rain in the

area, it is not enough.

 

As of Monday evening, the Nan-Hua Reservoir, which supplies Gaoxiong, was at

43-percent capacity (容量).

NKorea to pursue nuclear capability

 

North Korea says it will keep trying to make nuclear weapons if the U-S and

South Korea continue their joint (聯合) military exercises.

Turkey announces more Netherlands sanctions

 

Turkey has announced political sanctions (制裁) against the Netherlands.

 

The Netherlands has refused to allow two Turkish ministers to campaign in the

country.

 

The Turkish sanctions include stopping high-level political discussions

between the two countries.

 

The Dutch ambassador is now not allowed to enter Turkey, and Dutch diplomats

are now not allowed in Turkish air space.
