T*Taiex update

 

The Tai-Ex opened up 28-points this morning from Friday's close, at 9,656 on

turnover of 1.3-billion N-T.

T*Green Island oil spill investigation

 

Police say they are looking for eight ships that have something to do with an

oil spill on Green Island.

 

The oil spill was found last Thursday.

 

The coast guard says the oil along the shoreline is mostly cleaned up, but

inland (內陸) areas

 

If any of the eight vessels (船隻) dock in Taiwan, officials will board the

ships.

T*Expired ingredients in northern Taiwan

 

19 products made by Far East Oil Mills have been recalled.

 

The products are made from some expired (過期) margarine and clarified (提純)

butter.

 

The company sells products to 63 bakery suppliers in northern Taiwan.

T*Tour bus luggage explosion investigation

 

And .... 

 

Police are looking into an explosion in a tour bus parked outside Chiayi

County's Pu-Zi Township.

 

The bus driver's left hand was slightly injured. None of the passengers were

on the bus when the explosion happened.

 

Police think the explosion might have been started by incense (香) burners,

firecrackers or gas bottles in luggage.

Palestinian US leaders talk

 

The Palestinian leader says the U-S President is still committed to

Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts.

Ethiopia trash landslide

 

There was a landslide of garbage at a dump outside Ethiopia's capital

yesterday.

 

The landslide killed at least 46 people, and dozens are still missing.

 

Officials say most of the dead are women and children.

 

They say about 150 people were there when the landslide happened.

 

They either lived there, or were scavenging (拾荒) there.

Romania anti-corruption protests

 

Around 2,000 people are protesting in the capital city of Romania.

 

They are against a government proposal to give amnesty (赦免) to people

guilty of graft (貪污)

 

People have been demonstrating for weeks after the government proposed, and

then cancelled a decree in January.

 

The decree makes some official corruption not a crime.
