Section break ---- C*News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- E*EZ NEWS APRIL 15, 2019 ---- T*Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened up 45-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,850 on turnover of $2.19-billion N-T. ---- T*Taiwan develops Asia's first ASF rapid test kit A Taiwan company says its test for African Swine Fever has been recognized by teh World Organization for Animal Health. Excelsior Bio-System says its rapid (快速) test can find out if a live pig has ASF in 10 minutes. It can confirm if the pig is infected with ASF as early as 14 days after it first gets the virus. The company is the first to provide (提供) such tests in Asia. The Council of Agriculture says Taiwan has not had a case of ASF infection. So far, only dead pigs that have washed ashore from China and meat products brought in by travelers have been found to be infected. (NS) ---- T*Poor air quality forecast for parts of western Taiwan: EPA Officials say air quality will be poor in parts of western Taiwan and the outlying (邊遠) islands today. The Environmental Protection Administration says a red alert is in place for Kinmen, meaning the air there is unhealty for all groups. An orange alert, meaning unhealthy air for sensitive groups is in effect for Shilin and Wanli in Taipei, Qiao-tou in the south, as well as Matsu. And yellow alerts indicating moderate air quality, cover almost all other regions (地區). Officials say a northeast monsoon is blowing pollutants towards the city from China. ---- Sudan Talks Over Transition Government Protesters in Sudan are holding talks with the ruling (統治) military council. The group wants the military to "immediately and unconditionally" give power to a temporary civilian government that would run the country for four years. The leader of the opposition Sudanese Congress Party says the meeting at military headquarters in Khartoum have been "positive". He says the talks focused on presenting (呈遞、表達) the protestors demands and the plan for the government's transition. They are also calling for the party of ousted (下台、逐出) President Omar al-bashir to be dissolved. An army spokesperson says the military council has started to change security organizations. He also says the opposition party would be allowed to name a civilian prime minister and Cabinet, but not a president. ---- Japan Begins Removing Fukushima Fuel From Japan... Work has started to remove fuel from the wrecked (廢墟) Fukushima nuclear plant. Tokyo Electric Power company says workers started taking out the fuel units stored in the pool at Unit 3 There are 566 fuel units in total there. TEPCO says all the fuel from Unit 3 will be removed in two years. Then they will begin work on the other two damaged reactors. It is important to move the fuel to somewhere safe to avoid another disaster in case of another major earthquake. Three reactors melted down after a major quake and tsunami (海嘯) in 2011. ---- Woods Takes Masters Tiger Woods gets his first Major championship in 11 years by winning the Masters.
