He said he is resigning to take responsibility for problems related (相關) to the issue of the National Taiwan University President. Yeh approved Guan Chong-min's appointment yesterday. Yeh also says National Taiwan University's choice on this issue caused serious damage to Taiwan's education system. The Ministry of Education says Guan will take office on January 8th. ---- E*CWB Forecasting Cold and Wet New Year Holiday Weekend Weather officials say we'll have cold and wet weather over the New Year holiday weekend. The Central Weather Bureau says a new cold front will hit Taiwan this afternoon. Temperatures will be the lowest on Friday and Saturday. They say the cold will continue until next week after the New Year holiday. Meanwhile .. A tropical depression is forming (形成) in the Philippine Sea. Officials say it could become a tropical storm. The system is about 2,000-kilometers east of Taiwan. ---- E*US Trump Backpedals on Fed Criticism US President Donald Trump is toning down (和緩) his criticism of the Federal Reserve AP correspondent Jackie Quinn reports. < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- E*Koreas Hold Railway Groundbreaking South Korean officials are in North Korea to go to a ceremony for a North and South Korea railway project. The ceremony is at the North Korean border town fo Kaesong. The Koreas hope to make northern railways more modern (現代), and connect it with southern railways someday. But for now, the Koreas cannot move much further on the project until US-led sanctions against the North end. ---- E*Italy Volcano Eruption Italy's Catania airport has restarted operations. It was shut down yesterday due to an ash cloud from an erupting volcano. Mount Etna in eastern Sicily spewed (噴) out ash and lava yesterday, but no evacuations were ordered.
