Section break ---- C*News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- E*EZ NEWS OCTOBER 31, 2018 ---- E*Flags at Half Mast in Taitung For Victims of Puyuma Derailment A memorial service is being held in Taitung today for the victims of a Puyuma train accident. Flags at all government buildings in the county are flying at half mast (半旗). 18 people were killed in the train derailment, and 15 of them were from Taitung. Officials from the local government and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications are also there to express condolences (慰問) to the victims and their families. ---- E*No Damage Reported Following Hualien Quake A magnitude (大小) 4.2 earthquake hit the east coast, but caused no damage or injuries. The quake hit at 8:11am and was centered about 35-kilometers southwest of Hualien County Hall at a depth of 21-kilometers. In Hualien's Xi-Lin District, it was a magnitude 4 on the Central Weather Bureau's intensity index. The quake was a magnitude 3 in Hualien's Tong-Men and Hong-Yue districts. And it was also felt in Nantou's Ou-Wan and Taichung's Li-Shan districts, where it registered a magnitude 2. ---- E*UN Concerned Over Rohingya Repartriation Deal The United Nations is concerned about an agreement between Bangladesh and Myanmar to return Rohingya refugees to Rakhine state next month. The UN warns that genocide (種族滅絕) is still taking place there. Our UN correspondent Liling Tan has the details from UN headquarters in New York. < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- E*HK Novelist Louis Cha Obit Louis Cha, a Hong Kong journalist and best-selling Chinese martial arts novelist, has died at age 94 after a long illness. The Hong Kong newspaper founded by Cha, Ming Pao Daily News, said he passed away yesterday at a Hong Kong hospital. Cha often used the pen name (筆名) Jin Yong. His novels about ancient Chinese swordsmen are some of the most widely read books in the Chinese-speaking world.
