The market staged a technical rebound led by large-cap electronics and silicon wafer stocks Monday to move above the 9,500 point mark. ---- E*Puyuma, Taroko Express to operate with two drivers: minister Transportation Minister Wu Hong-mo says all express trains with tilting (傾斜) features that run mainly in eastern Taiwan will have two drivers instead of one, starting today. The announcement follows a deadly Puyuma Express crash on October 21-st which left 18 people dead. Wu says the new system will be introduced on all 36 Puyuma Express and 14 Taroko Express runs on weekdays and 38 Puyuma and 18 Taroko runs on weekends to improve travel safety. The system will allow the main driver to focus on operating the train, while the co-driver can concentrate on communicating with the dispatcher and solve whatever problems occur during the journey. ---- E*Taiwan halts flu vaccine's use after impurity detected The Centers for Disease Control says the use of a batch of a children's influenza vaccine (兒童流感疫苗) has been halted, after suspended matter was found in the product. Kaohsiung's health department reported Sunday that a clinic in the city noticed white suspended matter in a dose of flu vaccine manufactured by Taiwan-based vaccine maker Adimmune Corp. Some 82-thousand doses from this batch of vaccine have been delivered to the CDC. 48-thousand doses have been distributed to health departments in Taichung, Chiayi, Tainan and Kaohsiung cities and Pingtung, Hualien, Taitung, Penghu and Kinmen counties as part of a free public immunization (免疫接種) program. ---- E*Debate among Taipei Mayoral C candidates Representatives from five Taipei Mayoral candidates' campaign offices will meet today to discuss the dates for televised debates (辯論). The expected meeting comes after Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-zhe had initially argued that he was too busy with city affairs and would not have time for campaign-related matters until after November 8th. The Public Television Service will host the first debate. ---- E*Indonesian rescuers retrieve remains of downed flight The Indonesian jet which crashed minutes after take-off suffered instrument problems the day before. The Boeing 737 owned by low-cost airline Lion Air crashed into the Java Sea, killing all 189 people on board. The log from a Bali to Jakarta flight on Sunday said an instrument was "unreliable" ("靠不住") and that the pilot had to hand over to the first officer. Rescuers are sifting through the wreckage, but a top search official says no survivors are expected from the search and rescue efforts. ---- E*Ecuador judge rules against Assange in court case WiKiLeaks founder Julian Assange is alleging new requirements imposed on him by the Ecuadorean government are meant to push him out of their embassy in London. An Ecuadorean judge has ruled against a request by Assange to loosen new requirements that require the Australian to pay for services like internet and laundry and care for his cat. He says that his rights are being violated (違反). Assange has been living in the embassy for six years. ---- E*Red Cross: Over 100,000 missing people is a global crisis The International Committee of the Red Cross says over 100,000 people around the world are missing, calling it a global crisis (全球危機). Red Cross protection adviser Agnes Coutou told the U.N. General Assembly's human rights committee Monday that ``this is the highest number they have ever had.'' She added that the number ``represents only a fraction (分數) of those estimated to be missing because of past and ongoing conflicts.''
