The Tai-Ex opened up 22-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 9,612
on turnover of 1.7-billion N-T.

T*Uber drivers protest suspension

Uber drivers protested outside the Ministry of Transportation building in
Taipei.

They are angry that the ride-sharing app is stopping service here in Taiwan.

Uber announced that it was stopping service in Taiwan because it had been
fined many times.

Its drivers have also been affected.

Taiwan Uber Drivers Alliance representative (代表) Adam Shen says the group
plans to have around 500 drivers for today's protest.

They also want to give a petition to Transport Minister Ho Chen Dan asking
the government to make the service legal.

T*Former boyfriend questioned over woman's death

Pingtung police say an ex-boyfriend of a 21-year-old woman found dead in
Gao-Shu Township, is being questioned.

The woman's half-naked body was found outside Guan-Xing Elementary School
Thusday morning.

Police say the body had knife wounds on her head, face and torso (軀幹).

The ex-boyfriend turned himself in to police this morning.

T*Lawmaker calls for harsher punishment for pet abandonment

And .... 

Lawmakers want there to be harsher punishment for pet owners who abandon
(丟棄) their animals.

D-P-P lawmaker Lin Chun-Hsien wants lawmakers to make fines higher, to
between $100-thousand to $300-thousand NT.

Taiwan has banned putting down stray animals, but animal rights groups say
the stray animal problem will get worse if the government doesn't find ways
to support that ban.

US Trump vows to fight ban ruling

U-S President Donald Trump says he will fight for his travel ban.

An appeals court (法院) has ruled it will not follow the ban.

Our Washington Correspondent Simon Marks reports.

Britain limit on lone child refugees

Britain's government is putting a limit on how many lone child refugees it
takes into the country.

Officials say Britain will take about 350 children.

That is a lot fewer than (少於) the 3000 the government originally planned to
take.

Around 200 children have been brought in thus far.

New Zealand whale stranding

New Zealand officials say more than 400 whales are stranded (擱淺) on a beach.

The pilot whales were found today at Farewell Spit on South Island.

About 75-percent of the animals have died.

It is one of the worst whale strandings in the country's history.

Workers and volunteers hope they can take some of the survivors back into
deeper waters during high tide today.

If that fails, they are planning another try on Saturday.
