The Taiwan Stock Exchange still opens today with Tai-Ex down 63-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10-thousnd 693 on turnover of 2.6-billion N-T. ---- T*TaiPower Tai-Power says nearly half of the 40,000 households that lost power as the outer rim of Typhoon Maria (颱風外圍) was battering the north of the island overnight have now had their electricity restored. According to Tai-Power, a total of 40-thousand 900 households lost power from between midnight and 6AM. Power outages affected households in San-Chong, San-Xia, Shu-Lin, Ying-Ge and Dan-shui and San-Zhi. Five-thousand households in Taoyuan are also still waiting for their power to be restored. Typhoon Maria is now located some 30-kilometers north-northeast of Matsu and continuing to move in a west-northwesterly direction at 30-kilometers an hour. The Central Weather Bureau has said the outer rim of the storm is expected to have moved away from Taiwan by noon. ---- T*Regular wages Average regular wages here in Taiwan rose almost 2.5-per cent from a year earlier on the back of a continued recovery in the local economy - that, according to the government. Average regular salaries in May totaled 40-thousand 874 N-T, up 2.5-per cent from a year earlier. The government says the growing economy served as a driver (景氣上揚是動力) to the increase in regular wages, which serve as a gauge (量尺) of economic fundamentals. It was the sixth consecutive month in which the average regular wages grew more than 2-per cent. ---- T*MOFA on eSwatini The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Taiwan's ambassador to eSwatini is recovering after he was found seriously ill in his office on June 22. According to ministry spokesman Andrew Lee, Thomas Chen has made significant progress and is now able to interact with people. The foreign ministry has not commented on what was wrong with Chen, but local media pundit Clara Zhou is claiming he suffered a stroke. ---- Thailand in world news... The Thailand cave saga (英勇故事) has ended in success. Thailand's navy SEALs say all 12 boys and their soccer coach have been rescued from a flooded cave in far northern Thailand, ending an ordeal (苦難考驗) that lasted for 17 days. The medic (醫護人員) and three Navy SEALs who stayed with the boys are also out of the cave as well. The boys are now in hospital under quarantine (隔離觀察), even though they emerged in relatively good shape, and will receive psychiatric treatment (心理治療) as well. ---- US Trump US President Donald Trump said his summit with Vladimir Putin might be easier than meetings with Nato allies and the British Prime Minister. Trump travelled to Europe on Tuesday for what's expected to be frosty meetings (冷若冰霜的會面) with Nato members and an awkward visit to the UK. They will become the first wholly foreign-owned automaker in China. Tesla's announcement comes amid mounting U.S.-Chinese tension over technology and follows Beijing's April promise to end restrictions (限制) that required foreign automakers to work through local partners. Tesla said construction would begin two to three years after official permits are obtained. ---- Italy Clooney Hollywood star George Clooney was involved in a motorbike accident in Italy Tuesday - suffering minor injuries. His motorbike slammed into an oncoming (迎面而來的) car that turned suddenly into his lane, and he was thrown several meters in the air on the Italian island of Sardinia. The John Paul II hospital confirmed Clooney was treated there and released after a few hours. The actor's spokesperson says Clooney is recovering at his home and will be fine. ---- WEATHER ...
