Section break ---- News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- T*Taiex update The Tai-Ex opened up 30-points this morning from Friday's close, at 10,638 on turnover of 3.6-billion N-T. ---- T*Super Typhoon Maria possible sea warning A sea warning for Super Typhoon Maria could come this afternoon. The Central Weather Bureau says a land warning could be in place tomorrow morning at the earliest. Right now, the storm is 1,450-kilometers east-south-east of Eluanbi at the island's southernmost tip. It is moving 26-kilometers an hour in a west-northwesterly direction. The bureau says Super Typhoon Maria will be closest to Taiwan Wednesday morning. But they say rain and wind will probably start getting stronger tomorrow evening. Forecasters say it's too early to say if the storm will make landfall in Taiwan. ---- T*FDA recalls heart drugs Six types of drugs for heart disease and hypertension are being recalled. Several countries have recalled anti-hypertensive drugs produced by China's Huahai Pharmaceutical. All the recalled drugs contain valsartan. The Food and Drug Administration says the move is precautionary (預防). There is concern that a chemical in the recalled medicines is a carcinogen (致癌物). The FDAsays the drugs are not commonly used in Taiwan, and most heart disease patients will not be affected. ---- T*MOL for women returning to workforce And .... The Ministry of Labor is starting a program to help stay-at-home women go back to work. Reports say many women in Taiwan stop working for family reasons such as raising their children, caring for the elderly or people with disabilities or illness. The MOL is holding 12 workshops to help the women go back to work. They are also giving a 20,000 N-T subsidy for stay-at-home women to take looking to strengthen their professional skills by taking training courses. ---- US Pompeo NKorea trade US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has responded to North Korea's negative reaction to their talks. AP correspondent Ben Thomas reports. ((opens with actuality)) < [CLIP] Slug: > Pompeo is now in Vietnam meeting with senior officials, as part of his round-the-world trip. ---- Japan heavy rain Heavy rain has caused flooding and landslides in southwestern Japan. Local media reports that 88 people are dead and 58 are missing. The rain started on Friday and got worse through the weekend.
