Section break ---- News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- T*Taiex update The Tai-Ex opened down 8-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 11,243 on turnover of 3.3-billion N-T. ---- T*Tropical Storm Maliksi no affect on Taiwan Forecasters say Tropical Storm Maliksi won't affect Taiwan. The Central Weather Bureau says Maliksi grew into a tropical storm at 2am. The storm is some 900-km southeast of Oulunbi and is moving northward at 17-km per hour. Maliksi has sustained wind speeds of 64-kilometers per hour with gusts of up to 90-kilometers per hour. ---- T*US legislation on military participation in Taiwan exercises From the US.... A draft law calls for US troops to participate in Taiwan's military exercises. Section 1243 of the act restates (重申) the Taiwan Relations Act and the "Six Assurances". It says they are both cornerstones (基石) of Taiwan-U-S relations. The bill also says the US secretary of defense should promote policies that strengthen Taiwan's security, "including U-S participation in appropriate Taiwan exercises and vice versa. ---- T*FSC wants Saturday trading to end And .... The FSC wants to stop Saturday trading. The Tai-Ex is open on some Saturdays in order to make-up for lost trading sessions due to national holidays. But Financial Supervisory Commission Chairman Wellington Koo says that could end as early as next year. Taiwan's government is trying to make Taiwan's trading laws follow international standards. The central bank is against the move. ---- US ZTE deal The U.S. Commerce Secretary says the US has reached a deal with Chinese tech giant ZTE. U.S. correspondent William Denselow reports. < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- Guatemala volcano rescue suspended Rescuers in Guatemala are pausing search and recovery efforts in places hit by a vocanic eruption. Officials say weather and still-hot volcanic material make it dangerous for search and rescue, and 72 hours has already passed since Sunday's eruption. Authorities have said it would be extremely (非常) unlikely to find survivors after that time. 109 people were killed and about 200 are still missing. The government is looking into whether emergency meausres were followed properly, as many residents had little or no time to evacuate. The official number of confirmed dead was raised by 10 to 109 in the early evening, with about 200 more believed to be missing. ---- UK Pippa Middleton preganancy and from the UK.... Pippa Middleton has revealed that she is expecting. The younger sister of Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge announced the news in a local publication, and says she has passed her first trimester.
