Section break ---- News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- T*Taiex update The Tai-Ex opened down 1-point this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,873 on turnover of 2.4-billion N-T. ---- T*Cabinet measures encourages medium-skilled workers to stay The Cabinet is working on laws to raise the number of medium-skilled workers in Taiwan. The changes would mean that international students who get high school or vocational (專業) school degrees in Taiwan can stay to work. Migrant workers with six years of work experience in Taiwan can also stay to work. The Cabinet hopes these changes will help fight a shortage (短缺) of manpower in Taiwan, as well as a falling birth rate. Hong Kong and Macau residents who meet the requirements can also apply to work in Taiwan as a mid-level skilled worker. ---- T*MOFA outreach for Taiwan reporters at WHA MOFA will ask allies and friendly countries to talk to the WHO about Taiwan reporters at the World Health Assembly. A request from CNA to cover the meeting of the WHA was turned down. No reason was given. Now the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says its representative (代表) office in Geneva will ask Taiwan's allies and friendly countries to talk with the World Health Organization. ---- T*FDA to ban partially hydrogenated oils And .... The Food and Drug Administration says companies that make food will not be allowed to use partially hydrogenated oils from July 1-st. Companies that do not follow the rules could be fined up to $3-million NT. Experts say artificial trans fats in the P-H-Os can cause obesity, cardiovascular diseases (心血管疾病), and increase the risk of fatty liver and Alzheimer's disease. ---- Koreas talks cancelled North Korea has cancelled (取消) high-level talks with South Korea. Kate Fisher reports from Washington < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- Venezuela Kellogg Kellogg Company closed its factory in Venezuela and laid off (遣散、解僱) 300 workers. The American company says it closed the factory because of the "current economic and social deterioration" in Venezuela. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro says the company is trying to make him lose the presidential election on Sunday. He says he is ordering that the factory be turned over to Kellogg's workers. ---- China emergency landing Chinese officials and Airbus is looking into why a plane's cockpit window fell off during a flight. The Sichuan Airlines flight from Chongqing to Lhasa made an emergency landing in Chengdu when the window on the A319 jet broke off. The co-pilot's seatbelt saved him from being sucked out of the plane.
