Section break ---- News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- T*Taiex update The Tai-Ex opened up 79-points this morning from Friday's close, at 10,938 on turnover of 4.7-billion N-T. ---- T*Questions over MoE authority over Uni Prez continue The Cabinet spokesperson says the Ministry of Education has the power to appoint or reject the presidents of public universities. Hsu Guo-yong's statement comes after former Vice President Annette Lu said the M-O-E does not have that power. Lu and former Premier Simon Chang put out a joint (聯合、共同)statement, calling on the Ministry to confirm the appointment of National Taiwan University President-elect Guan Chong-min. The National Taiwan University held a meeting this weekend, and its school affairs committee is callign on the government to follow teh law and appoint Guan. ---- T*Taiwan condolences to Indonesia and Paris over attacks President Tsai Ing-wen has sent her condolences to people who were affected by suicide bombings in Indonesia and a knife attack in central Paris. Tsai said on Twitter that her "thoughts are with all those affected (受影響) by the attacks and Taiwan stands with all peace-loving people around the world.' The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent Taiwan's sympathy to Indonesia's representative to Taiwan. And Foreign Minister Joseph Wu has expressed Taiwan's sympathy to France's representative to Taiwan. ---- T*Taoyuan Metro celebrates anniversary with discounts And .... The Taoyuan Metro Corporation is offering discounts to celebrate the first anniversary of the opening of the airport MRT. There will be 50-percent discounts for 120-day passes starting in June. The four month offer is for travelers who go to and from the same stations each day. ---- T*ICRT Anti-drug on campus and... ICRT amd the CTBC Anti-drug Educational Foundation are raising awareness of the dangers of drugs in schools. Supported by the Ministry of Education, ICRT's DJ on Campus will be at National Chengchi University in Taipei tomorrow. The event gives students a chance to experience live English radio with DJ Joseph. And the CTBC Anti-drug Educational Foundation will help students learn how to spot (識別) drugs and protect themselves and their friends.
