The Tai-Ex opened up 48-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,808 on turnover of 2.7-billion N-T. The market closed higher Thursday, rising above the 1-month moving average of 10-thousand 712-points on the back of gains in U-S and European markets. ---- T*Military pension reform The Legislative National Defense Committee has finally passed an initial review of draft amendments to military pension laws. The draft bill was passed after 20 hours of a clause-by-clause review (逐條審查) amid the on-going protests by veterans groups. The minimum monthly pension for retired military personnel will be set at 38-thousand 990 N-T. Retired military personnel with a monthly pension lower than that figure will not be affected by the cuts. D-P-P caucus whip, Ko Jian-ming says some details of the bill could be adjusted (調整), but for the most part final pension levels have been set. ---- T*Joint military exercises Government agencies are holding a joint exercise in the South China Sea today to test Taiwan's maritime disaster relief (海上救難) and emergency response mechanisms. According to the Coast Guard Administration, the drill is code-named "Southern Aid No. 3" and it simulates (模擬) a scenario in which a Taiwanese cargo ship and a foreign-registered vessel collide (相撞), leaving several people injured or missing. Participating government agencies will focus on six aspects of Taiwan's humanitarian rescue capabilities, including its disaster relief response mechanisms and use of unmanned aerial vehicles (無人飛行器) for sea rescue. ---- T*Leisure Lifestyle award Taipei has won a 2018 Leisure Lifestyle Award hosted by Global Traveler magazine as the "best leisure destination in Asia." The US has imposed sanctions on six people and three companies it says have ties to Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard Corps, or I-R-G-C. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin says the penalties targeted those who had funnelled (透過管道輸送) millions of dollars to the group, funding its "malign activity 惡意的活動". Iran's central bank was also accused of helping the I-R-G-C to access US dollars. The Treasury Department did not name the sanctioned individuals, but said they were all Iranian. The move - which was carried out in conjunction with the United Arab Emirates - prohibits US individuals and entities from doing business with them. The latest penalties come just two days after President Donald Trump pulled the US out of the Iran nuclear deal and pledged to ramp up pressure (加重壓力) on Tehran. ---- US Hungary U.S. officials have identified a passport fraud scheme in Hungary that has allowed people to enter the U.S. under false identities. The issue was first reported Thursday by the Washington Post. The newspaper reported that about 700 non-Hungarians have fraudulently obtained (以詐騙方式取得) Hungarian passports and that at least 85 of them have attempted to travel to the U.S. The Post cites a Department of Homeland Security document that says 65 of those successfully entered the U.S. ---- R Kelly Spotify The streaming service (串流服務) Spotify has removed R.
