Section break ---- News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- Taiex update The Tai-Ex opened up 52-points this morning from Friday's close, at 10,581 on turnover of 2.8-billion N-T. ---- T*No Taiwan invite after WHA online registration passes Taiwan did not get an invitation for the World Health Assembly this year. The deadline to register online was today. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is now thinking about contacting the World Health Organization through Taiwan's diplomatic allies. The government is also asking that a proposal to invite Taiwan as an observer is included in the WHA's agenda this year. A MOFA spokesperson says Taiwan is also arranging talks with other countries and organizations on the sidelines of the event. This year's World Health Assembly will take place (發生) in Geneva from May 21st to 26th. ---- T*Presidential Office thanks US for airline concern The Presidential Office is thanking the US for its actions over China's request to US airlines. The White House has criticized China after it demanded that 36 US and foreign airlines change how they identify Taiwan and other areas on their websites. Speaking to reporters, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders described China's demand as "Orwellian nonsense." Presidential Office Spokesman Sydney Lin says Taiwan will continue to support and strive for regional (地區性) stability and cross-strait peace despite Beijing's constant efforts to suppress Taiwan's international space. ---- T*H5 geese culled at Yunlin farm And .... The Council of Agriculture says over 2,000 geese have been culled at a farm in Yun-Lin County. The animals at the farm in Si-Hu Township had a subtype of H-5 bird flu virus. It is the 68th case of bird flu infection to have been reported at poultry (家禽) farms here in Taiwan so far this year. ---- Trump CIA nominee US President Donald Trump's nominee to lead the Central Intelligence Agency has reportedly offered to withdraw (退出、撤回) her nomination. AP correspondent Ben Thomas reports. < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- El Salvador earthquakes Several earthquakes hit southern El Salvador on Sunday. 11 homes were destroyed and 180 more were seriously damaged. There were no reports of serious injuries or deaths. The U.S. Geological Survey said at least nine quakes of magnitude 4.3 or greater struck the region beginning in the morning local time, including three of magnitude 5.2 to 5.6. ---- Britain detection dogs cargo British officials say dogs trained to find explosives will be working at airports to check cargo. Officials say the dogs have been trained for 12 months to be able to find small traces of explosives.
