Section break ---- News Intro I'm ... w/ the top of the hour news ..... ---- T*Taiex update The Tai-Ex opened down 1-point this morning from yesterday's close, at 10,953 on turnover of 2.3-billion N-T. ---- T*President Tsai en route to Swaziland President Tsai Ing-wen is on her way to a four-day state-visit in Swaziland. It's her first trip to Africa since becoming president. Tsai and a group of officials will go to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic (外交) ties between Taiwan and Swaziland. It's also King Mswati III's 50th birthday and the 50th anniversary of Swaziland's independence. The president will also meet with local officials and visit the medical, agricultural and educational projects that Taiwan is supporting in Swaziland. Tsai will return to Taiwan on Saturday. ---- T*CSBS awarded Navy ship building contract The Navy confirms that CSBC Corporation Taiwan got a contract to build a ship. Defense officials say CSBC will build the amphibious (水陸兩用) transport dock for $4.6-billion NT. The ship should be in use by 2021. The 10,000 ton vessel will carry many different types of vehicles for rapid deployment and will also be a mobile dock or hospital in emergency situations such as natural disasters. ---- T*Wang Jienming documentary at LAAPFF And .... A documentary about Wang Jien-ming will be shown at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. "Late Life: The Chien-Ming Wang Story" was directed by Taiwanese-Canadian filmmaker Frank W. Chen. It follows Wang's efforts to be recruited by a professional baseball team after several injuries interrupted his major league (大聯盟)career. The film will compete for the international documentary award. ---- Russia hacking campaign The US and UK say the Russian government is supporting a global cyber (網絡)hacking campaign. US correspondent, Frances Read, reports. < [CLIP] Slug: > ---- Canada recalls Cuban diplomatic staff families Canada is ordering families of diplomatic staff in Cuba to return home. Canada's foreign ministry says there is "ongoing (不斷的、進行的) uncertainty" over mysterious health problems found in 10 people stationed on the island. They had headaches, dizziness, and could not concentrate. Cuba has said it doesn't know anything about the illnesses. ---- India PM in Sweden India's Prime Minister is in Sweden for a two-day visit. Narendra Modi is in Europe for talks on trade, growth, global security and climate. Modi will meet today with the prime ministers of Nordic (北歐) nations for the first India-Nordic Summit.
